Organizing a golf tournament…Make sure have good gifts!

One of the most important aspects of organizing a good golf tournament, whether it be for your weekend golfing buddies, 0r a full blown charity event, it to have fun golf tournament gifts.
Not only will you have happy golfers, but if you provide the winners great prizes, you’ll be sure to get them back year after year, helping your golf event grow. Depending on how you set up your tournament, you’ll most likely need a Grand Prize item, which should be at least in the several hundred dollar range. Usually a high end golf club is an excellent grand prize gift for the low tournament score. If you’re having a scramble, then you’ll need items for each member of the foursome. You’ll also need prizes for closest to the pin holes, long drive holes and possibly a “highest score of the day” gag gift. Balls, golf bags, and other novelty golf items are the standard for the various contests you will usually see at a typical golf tournament. Titleist NXT Tour - Bench Test

December 23, 2007 - Titleist introduced a new version of the NXT Tour back in July and we have recently begun our bench testing of the latest golf balls.    In this head-to-head analysis, we look at the old and new versions of the Titleist NXT Tour.  Inside we find that both models are of a similar three-piece design construction.  The NXT Tour ‘07 is shown on the right.

Titleist NXT Tour Comparison

The compression and cover hardness comparison of the two models are listed in the table below.  Our MPItesting showed that the NXT Tour ‘07 has similar cover hardness with a slightly higher compression than the NXT Tour ‘06.

Model Cover Hardness Compression
NXT Tour ‘07 82 93
NXT Tour ‘06 80 84

The cover dimple pattern has changed with the new model incorporating Titleist’s Staggered Wave parting line that effectively increases the dimple surface coverage on the golf ball.  The side stamp markings now are similar to the ProV1 and ProV1x models with Titleist’s A.I.M. (Alignment Integrated Marking) sidestamp.  The NXT Tour ‘07 again is shown on the right.

Our performance testing continues next month with robotic and human testing.  Plans are for these results to be incoporated into our new online ball fitting service at www.GolfBallSelector.com near the end of first quarter 2008.

Tiger Wins the Target World Challenge…Shocker!

As expected, Tiger Woods won his own tournament this past weekend, with a record tying score of 22 under for the four day event. Davis Love III is the other player who has also shot a 22 under round at the Target World Challenge, a few years ago. Not much drama in this event really. Tiger took control from the first day, and other being within a stroke or two of his next closest competitor, Tiger had the tournament well at hand by Friday afternoon, which was played under sunny skies in Thousand Oaks, California. Tiger has announced that his first 2008 tournament will be at the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines, once again skipping the Mercedes Championship in Hawaii.

Brandt Snedeker.. 2007 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year?

2007 will be a year PGA Tour rookie Brandt Snedeker will never forget. Well on his way to winning the Rookie of the Year honor, Brandt amassed over 2.8 million in winnings, along with one PGA tour win, and 5 top ten finishes. The 27 year old Snedeker didn’t even get a chance to vote for himself, as he was playing in Japan when the Rookie of the Year ballots came out. “I’m sure I’ll be kicking myself later,” he said, laughing when asked what he’ll do if he loses by one vote. In 29 tournaments, he finished 13 times in the top 25 and made 23 cuts……read more
